A remarkable piece of DC Universe fan art imagines Scott Adkins as Batman in *The Brave and the Bold*. This upcoming film, directed by Andy Muschietti, is set to introduce the new Batman and Robin to the DC Universe. As of September 2024, details about the cast and storyline remain undisclosed, although speculation is growing with casting news for other projects within the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter. Notably, the casting search for Hal Jordan in the *Lanterns* series has already commenced.
Celebrated DC enthusiast and artist Jobhutz shared on X a captivating fan art piece, showcasing martial artist and actor Scott Adkins as Batman. The artwork presents a comic-accurate Batman costume with minimal armor, highlighting Adkins’s muscular physique. Scott Adkins is known for portraying Weapon XI, also known as Deadpool, in the final act of *X-Men Origins: Wolverine*, and Lucian Aster, a henchman of Kaecilius, in *Doctor Strange*. Why the DCU Should Opt for a Less Grounded Batsuit for Batman
The Gritty and Realistic Depiction of Batman Has Been Overdone in Live-Action
Since Adam West’s portrayal, most live-action Batman actors have donned heavily-armored Batsuits. An exception was Ben Affleck’s portrayal in *Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice*, where his more flexible and lightweight costume allowed greater agility in combat. Despite Batman’s canonical martial arts prowess, most live-action adaptations have failed to replicate the Dark Knight’s comic-style fighting, primarily due to the restrictive nature of armored suits.
A less armored Batsuit aligns well with the DCU’s Dark Knight, especially considering *The Brave and the Bold* is set in James Gunn’s fantastical DC Universe, home to characters like the Creature Commandos. Similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Arrowverse’s Green Arrow, the notion that Batman in the DCU would be susceptible to stab wounds or gunfire is less pertinent than in more grounded adaptations like Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* trilogy and Matt Reeves’ *The Batman* series.
Every Live-Action Batsuit, Ranked
Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman already handles the realistic aspects of the character in Matt Reeves’ universe. The DCU has the opportunity to explore a less grounded portrayal of Batman, given that Pattinson’s Batman and the DCU’s Batman will headline their own films concurrently. Introducing a lightweight, cloth-like, and potentially more vibrant Batsuit could offer a refreshing change for DC in *The Brave and the Bold* and future Batman appearances.
