Imagining Thor 5: A Darker, More Serious MCU Adventure
Thor’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a rollercoaster, with Chris Hemsworth leading the charge through four solo films, more than any other character in the franchise. However, the reception to his latest outing, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” was mixed. Director Taika Waititi’s comedic approach overshadowed the film’s more serious and emotional elements, particularly those involving Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. With fans clamoring for a more somber narrative in “Thor 5,” new fan art presents a compelling vision for the next chapter.
A Vision of Thor 5 Inspired by Marvel’s Siege
On Instagram, artist @soloauthority envisions “Thor 5” as an adaptation of the Marvel Comics’ “Siege” storyline, which pits Thor against Sentry. This fan art highlights Sentry’s darker persona, the Void, suggesting a potential narrative direction for the MCU.
In the comics, Sentry, also known as Robert Reynolds, is a complex character with immense power and a dangerous alter ego. Although Sentry has yet to appear in the MCU, speculation is rife that he will join the cast of “Thunderbolts.” The first trailer for the film hints at Sentry’s presence, with scenes of bullets deflecting off a character, possibly Sentry, and a glimpse of his iconic belt.
What Sentry’s Arrival Could Mean for Thor 5
Marvel Comics’ Siege: A Potential Reality

The conclusion of Disney+’s “Secret Invasion” series has laid the groundwork for a possible adaptation of the “Siege” storyline. With the President of the United States declaring war on all alien life on Earth, rogue groups begin targeting Skrulls. This could lead to the persecution of Asgardians, who have established a colony on Earth known as New Asgard. In the comics, “Siege” involves an attack on Asgard, then located in the U.S., orchestrated by Norman Osborn and others.
Although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm “Thor 5,” Chris Hemsworth expressed in a Vanity Fair interview that he feels a responsibility to deliver another film after the mixed reactions to “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
A New Siege in the MCU
While Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin returned to his universe, “Secret Invasion” hints at a different kind of “Siege” in the MCU, potentially involving attacks on New Asgard. With Sentry’s connection to the “Thunderbolts,” the “Siege” storyline seems even more plausible. In this adaptation, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who assembles the Thunderbolts, could replace Norman Osborn as the one wielding control over Sentry, setting the stage for a climactic battle in “Thor 5.”
Our Perspective on Sentry’s Role in Thor 5
Thor Faces a Monumental Threat

Adapting “Siege” for “Thor 5” could bring a darker tone to the film without succumbing to the somberness that plagued “Thor: The Dark World.” Given the timing of Sentry’s introduction and Valentina’s potential role as his handler, Thor would face a formidable adversary. The Void, Sentry’s destructive alter ego, poses a significant threat to Asgard, having caused mass destruction in the comics. This makes Sentry a terrifying villain for “Thor 5.”

Thor 5
Thor 5 continues Chris Hemsworth's MCU journey as the Asgardian God of Thunder. It follows the events of Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder, where the hero visited Omnipotence City and tried to kill Zeus (Russell Crowe), and its post-credits scene, where the Greek deity orders his son, Brett Goldstein's Olympian demigod Hercules, to exact revenge.
