Lucasfilm has clarified that this artwork is neither theirs nor connected to The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Screen Rant has verified that the artwork is not from the film or affiliated with Lucasfilm, and it has no connection to the movie’s storyline. Consequently, we have removed the unofficial art.
Concept art for The Mandalorian and Grogu highlights a depiction of an early Mandalorian, possibly Tarre Vizsla himself. In season 3 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin and Grogu assisted in liberating Mandalore from Moff Gideon and the Imperial Remnant. This crucial Star Wars planet has been reclaimed by the Mandalorians, although Din and Grogu are no longer present there, having settled on the land gifted to them by Greef Karga on Nevarro. They now traverse the galaxy, collaborating with Carson Teva and the New Republic to track down more members of the Imperial Remnant in The Mandalorian and Grogu’s ongoing narrative.
As reported by IMDb, concept art by Melany Maximus presents a Mandalorian standing on a lush world, possibly representing Mandalore long before the events of The Mandalorian. Surrounding the enigmatic Mandalorian is abundant greenery, with a waterfall dramatically cascading in the background. This scene echoes the vegetation revealed on Mandalore in season 3 of The Mandalorian, despite the planet having turned into a barren desert after centuries of warfare.
The Helmet Design Resembles Tarre Vizsla, The First Mandalorian Jedi
Although the identity of the Mandalorian in the concept art remains unconfirmed, the armor appears antiquated, and the helmet design closely resembles that of Tarre Vizsla, the inaugural Mandalorian Jedi. Vizsla crafted and wielded the Darksaber, a symbol he and subsequent Mandalorians used to unite the diverse clans of Mandalore. The Mandalorian and Grogu might feature a flashback showing Vizsla on ancient Mandalore before it was rendered a desert.
With Grogu now officially recognized as Din’s son and a Mandalorian, delving into the history of ancient Mandalore and Vizsla could enrich Grogu’s education.
The prospect of Vizsla’s live-action debut seemed more plausible in season 3 of The Mandalorian, before the Darksaber’s destruction, when it still played a pivotal role in Din’s storyline. An ancient Mandalore flashback would be unexpected, given that Din and Grogu have departed Mandalore and are focused on new adventures as directed by the Mandalorian Armorer. A Vizsla appearance would excite fans of Star Wars Rebels but might lack the widespread interest needed for Star Wars’ first theatrical release since 2019.
Even though Din has physically left Mandalore, he remains connected to its heritage and culture. Now that Grogu is officially Din’s son and a Mandalorian, exploring ancient Mandalore and Vizsla’s history could integrate into Grogu’s lessons. This would further bridge the gap between the animated and live-action Star Wars narratives, as Vizsla was initially introduced in Rebels and could now be included in the live-action The Mandalorian and Grogu.
