Chase Sui Wonders, known for her role in “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” is reportedly considering a return to the horror scene to possibly fill the role vacated by Camilla Mendes in the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot. This new film revisits the franchise that began with the 1997 slasher, which followed four teens pursued by a killer who claimed knowledge of their dark secret. The franchise currently includes two theatrical releases, a direct-to-DVD sequel, and a Prime Video series that aired for one season in 2021.
Although Camilla Mendes of “Riverdale” fame has left “I Know What You Did Last Summer” to join Travis Knight’s “Masters of the Universe” reboot, her role might be filled by another emerging talent. According to Deadline, Chase Sui Wonders, who played aspiring actress Emma in the 2022 horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” is in discussions to step into the role. In “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” she acted alongside Amandla Stenberg from “The Acolyte,” Rachel Sennott from “Bottoms,” and Pete Davidson, portraying a group of young adults whose game spirals into a deadly hunt for a suspected murderer.
Who Else Is Starring in the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” Reboot?
The Return of Original Characters Remains Uncertain.
The 2023 announcement of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” revival indicates it will draw inspiration from the 2022 “Scream” revival, blending a fresh ensemble of rising stars with returning actors who helped shape the series. Directed by franchise newcomer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the youthful cast currently includes Madelyn Cline of “Glass Onion,” Jonah Hauer-King from “The Little Mermaid,” Sarah Pidgeon from “The Wilds,” and Tyriq Wither from “Atlanta.” Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are anticipated to reprise their roles as Julie and Ray, continuing the narrative threads from the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.”
10 Things Scream Does Better Than I Know What You Did Last Summer (& Vice Versa)
While the reboot is confirmed to expand on elements from the 1998 sequel, it is yet to be determined if the series’ killer will reappear for a third time. Ben Willis, played by Muse Watson, was last seen attacking Julie in a final jumpscare, though this could be explained away as a dream, similar to the retcon of the original film’s ending. With more than two decades having passed and Ben having lost his son while chasing Julie and Ray, the sequel might depict him seeking revenge on their children.
Brandy, who starred in “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” is also reportedly in discussions to return for this legacy sequel.
Though the absence of a reunion between Mendes and Robinson from their previous collaboration on “Do Revenge” might seem like a missed chance, Wonders is nonetheless an excellent contender for the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot. She brings genre experience from “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Daniel Isn’t Real,” aligning with the original film’s tradition of assembling promising young actors. With Wonders potentially joining the cast, the revival’s filming could commence soon.
