Alan Tudyk Joins the Cast of Superman: A New Era for the DC Universe
Tudyk’s Role in the Upcoming Superman Film
Acclaimed actor Alan Tudyk has been confirmed to join another DC Studios project, making an appearance in James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman film. This movie marks the beginning of Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” in the reimagined DC Universe, set to deliver fresh superhero narratives across film and television. Scheduled for release in 2025, Superman will feature David Corenswet taking on the iconic role of the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor. Although the plot details are being kept under wraps, anticipation continues to build.
According to Deadline, Tudyk will be taking on a secretive role in Gunn’s Superman movie. Tudyk’s involvement with the DC Universe is not new, as he is already contributing as the voice of Doctor Phosphorus in the Creature Commandos animated series premiering December 5 on Max. As of this writing, neither Gunn, DC Studios, nor Warner Bros. Discovery have made any official statements regarding Tudyk’s casting in Superman.

Following the report from Deadline, Tudyk humorously confirmed his participation in Superman on his official Threads account, saying:
“Between you and me – I am playing Jimmy Olson’s French photographer friend, Bertrand ‘Bertie’ Muegler, who specializes in adult avant-garde snaps. Wears a cape, but isn’t a superhero, just a fashion slut.”
Implications of Tudyk’s Casting for the DC Universe
Versatility in Roles
Despite Tudyk’s current role as the voice of Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, his casting in Superman does not conflict with the animated series. The character of Doctor Phosphorus is radioactive and doesn’t resemble a typical human, allowing Tudyk to take on a new role in Superman without the need for CGI adaptations for live-action.
James Gunn has mentioned that actors selected for animated DC Universe projects will also portray their live-action counterparts, but this does not restrict them from taking on additional roles. For instance, Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, voices Weasel and G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos and is also set to play Maxwell Lord in Superman. This opens up intriguing possibilities for actors like Gunn and Tudyk to potentially share scenes across different characters in both Creature Commandos and Superman.
Our Perspective on Tudyk’s Involvement in Superman
Tudyk’s Growing DC Portfolio
Alan Tudyk’s expanding presence in the DC world is a natural progression given his extensive experience within this genre, having appeared in series such as Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, and Young Justice, alongside Creature Commandos. The key question remains regarding the character Tudyk will embody, as it could be a new addition to the DC Universe with potential for a significant storyline in future films and series. Until Superman hits theaters next year, fans can only speculate and anticipate which character Tudyk will bring to life.
